Alex Rose is a serial game jammer, and creator of Super Rude Bear Resurrection. Alex Rose Games is funded by Creative England and Sony Strategic Content.
HistoryVery Early history
Alex started developing games in 1996 at the age of 4, using a demo version of Clickteam's Games Factory. After receiving a full copy of the software for his 5th birthday, he spent the next 13 years hacking together terrible games and generally learning game design.Still too-early-to-be-relevant history
Alex studied Physics at Manchester University, having temporarily abandoned the dream of being a game designer, but after taking a course in C Programming in 2011, within 3 months took back up the mantle and started competing in the Ludum Dare game jam in late 2012 (also quietly releasing an android/iOS game, Rotation Station in 2013 after graduating).Rude Bear series
From December 2012 onwards, Alex has competed in every Ludum Dare jam, sometimes while simultaneously exhibiting at events, every time making an addition to the Rude Bear game series. In December 2013 Rude Bear Resurrection came first place for innovation in Ludum Dare 28. Having won this, Alex started working on Super Rude Bear Resurrection in April 2014, but still makes a Rude Bear jam game once every 4 months. Each Rude Bear game provides a take on a different genre, from RPGs and MOBAs to RTS games and 3D zelda-likes.Super Rude Bear Resurrection
Alex prototyped a commercial version of Super Rude Bear Resurrection in 2 weeks for Insomnia51 Gaming Festival, and started doing multiple shows, like The Guardian's Radius Festival, EGX, and Tokyo Game Show 2014. In this time, he also started working with famous Grime producer, Deeco, on the game's soundtrack. Upon garnering the praise of Shuhei Yoshida in Tokyo, on returning Alex was able to pitch for funding from Creative England and Sony Strategic Content, allowing him to hire a crack team of artists, including the talented Simon Wong (lead concept/character artist on SRBR), Kitt Dale (lead background artist on SRBR, and artist on Gang Beasts), Pierre-Jean Griscelli (sound designer from Batman Arkham Knight) and Pierre-Jean Beaudoin (foley artist on Wakfu).Outside SRBR
Alex has been a speaker at Develop Conference (after being chosen for their 30 Under 30 list) and Indievelopment Utrecht, as well as a judge at Indievelopment, and judge of Jamchester, the UK's biggest professional game jam. Alex also organised Manchester's Global Game Jam 2014 jamsite, and is an active member of the Manchester local games scene, playing an active role in Manchester Day, Manchester's Unity Usergroup and Gameopolis.
